What is the best way to litter train my new kitten?
If brought up properly, most kittens instinctively know how to use a litter tray, but if they do need a little help follow these easy steps:
- Choose a designated place for your kitten’s litter tray. It should always be accessible but away from her bed and food. Show your kitten where the litter is by placing them in the tray.
- Watch closely after they have finished eating and just woken up, when the kitten looks as if it is ready to go to the toilet (crouching with its tail raised), place them in the litter tray. A natural instinct will tell the kitten to cover up its faeces and urine with the litter.
- If the kitten relieves itself outside the tray, carry them quickly to the litter tray but never punish her. If you discover an accident, just quietly clear away the mess using Mikki Odour Remover to eliminate the smell.
- Clean your cat’s litter tray regularly using Mikki Litter Tray Disinfectant and Deodoriser. Our Herbal Litter Freshener is also great for keeping litter smelling fresher for longer in between cleans.
