How to put your Doodles Coat on your dog
Not all dogs find it easy to have a coat or robe placed on them or around their heads, especially if they are not use to it. Therefore, we encourage you to understand how to get your dog used to wearing a coat.
Before you even think about putting the coat on, start by laying it on the floor. This simple step allows your dog to sniff and explore this intriguing new item at their own pace. To make it even more enticing, sprinkle some of their favourite treats right on top of the coat! This will not only pique their interest but also create a positive association with the coat.
As they show curiosity and approach the coat, shower them with praise and encouragement! Celebrate each little step they take towards embracing this new accessory.
1 – Lay the coat flat and by your dog’s feet and either step your dog on top of the coat or entice them towards the coat. Then start by placing their legs in each of the front legs. Make sure each leg is all the way through.
2 – Once both legs are through the front leg holes, put the front of the coat upwards and wrap around your dogs neck. To hold the front of the coat up at the front, use the popper button to fasten the coat.
3 – Place your dog’s back legs through the back leg holes. Again, make sure your dog’s legs are all the way through.
4 – Pull each side of the back of the coat up towards your dog’s back.
5 – Once you have pulled the two back parts together at the back of your dog, use the zip to close the coat. Make sure you do not catch any of your dog’s coat in the zip – you can do this by carefully zipping bit by bit. Ensure you zip all the way to the neck of the coat. Take care with your dog’s ears near the neck.
6 – Adjust the buckles around the middle of the coat if you need to tighten or loosen the coat depending on your dog’s size.
7 – Adjust the neck and legs according to how snug and protected you would like your dog from the elements. The Velcro on the legs allows you to keep them in place if your dog has shorted legs.
8 – Enjoy your walk in the elements in the safe knowledge that your dog will be will be fell protected and comfortable.
With patience and support, you and your pup will soon be ready for the wet and cold walks that you may be dreading – and looking stylish at the same time!
