These are made for right handed users.

Hold your pet’s foot carefully and ensure that you are in complete control before starting to trim the nail. Begin cutting in one smooth action. If you are unsure, only cut off a small amount at a time.
IMPORTANT: Your pet’s claw has blood vessels known as the ‘quick’. It is important that you do not cut into this area. It is easy to locate the quick on animals with light coloured claws. For those with dark coloured claws it may be easier to locate the quick by looking on the underside of the nail – however if in doubt seek the advice of your vet or pet groomer.

Keeping your pet’s nails trimmed is essential for good care and grooming. If you pet is particularly nervous or dislikes having their claws clipped, try using a Mikki Nail File.
Regularly practice handling your pets paws so the become used to you touching them, this will make the task much easier for both of you.

Comb gently and systematically using a Mikki flea comb, remembering that fleas tend to favour areas where the fur is thicker. When you spot fleas trapped in the teeth immediately drown them in soapy water or insecticide.
TIP: Have a large sheet of paper underneath your pet so that the fleas & eggs can be easy seen and destroyed. Light paper will allow dark eggs to show up.
During the flea season, comb your pet daily to ensure your pet is flea free.

To remove a tick, position our Tick Picker over the tick with the tick in the largest section of the picker, nearest the handle. Lift the handle so that the narrow nose of the picker is flat on the skin. Draw the picker slowly and firmly towards the tick so that it is gripped securely and can be carefully lifted away from the skin and disposed of.
Spray area where the tick was attached with disinfectant.
Note: Use smooth movement when lifting the tick. Ensure that there are no traces of tick’s head or mouthparts left on or in the skin. Pets should be checked daily for ticks, their immediate removal would minimise the chance of transmitting disease.

Double coated breed usually shed A LOT!  So it’s important to keep on top of grooming to keep them feeling comfortable and (along with your home) looking great!

Grooming using smooth, even strokes, applying a little pressure, move in the direction of the coat. The undercoat and dead hair will come out painlessly, giving an even glossed finish to the coat. Work evenly all over the main sections of your pet’s coat (do not use on delicate areas such as ears, stomach or around the eyes or genitals), working in sections and ensuring you don’t over repeat the process in any one area.

Check out our Knots & Tangles range.  Regular grooming with a comb will help keep their coat free from matts and tangles. Comb in sections, through all areas of your pet’s body including their legs, belly, tail, paws, ears and head.
If you do find a tangle, try to tease it free using one of our de-matting products. 
When clearing a matt try to hold the hair at the root to avoid pulling the skin. Work with short strokes to cut progressively through the tangle. 
If your pet is excessively matted it may be wise to seek professional assistance. Also, sensitive areas may be better clipped as they are more vulnerable.

Wire-haired breeds need tools to keep their coat coarse.  Our Hard Pin Slickers are a great place to start.

Before you begin, ensure your dog’s coat can be hand stripped (i.e. it hasn’t been previously clipped which can soften and/or thicken the coat) if in doubt seek advice from a qualified groomer.
Before using a stripping knife, ensure your pet is relaxed and comfortable with being groomed. Don’t bath your dog prior to stripping as this will prevent you from getting a good grip on the hair. Remove any knots or matts by brushing through the coat with a slicker and comb first.
Begin by holding the stripping knife with the smooth side of the blade facing you. with your other hand, hold the skin taut close to the area you are going to strip whilst you are stripping this will make the procedure more comfortable for your dog.
Follow the grain of your dog’s coat, use a combing action to catch the hair between the serrated teeth. Hold the hair in place with your thumb and remove the hair by gently pull in the direction of the lay of the coat. Use an arm and shoulder pulling movement, rather than a wrist action to ensure you pull out the hairs rather than cut them with the knife.
Work methodically through your dog’s coat, a section at a time until the entire outer coat has been removed. By hand stripping every 4-6 weeks, you will achieve a “rolled coat” where the hairs fit neatly into each other and the coat becomes flatter and coarser.
